How To Seam Artificial Turf
Learn how to seam your artificial turf below by using our step-by-step guide.
How To Seam Artificial Turf Properly
It’s crucial to follow the instructions below to avoid any potential mistakes. There are three outer tuft lines on both sides of the turf that will lean to the outside.
Try cutting off three tufts prior to making the seam. Leave about 3/8″ inch space for the seam. Too much or too little space for the seam can create an uneven surface. Now that you are prepared for this task, use the ten-step guide below to seam your artificial turf.
Step 1
- Set the second roll of turf as close as possible to its final desired location.
Step 2
- Flip your edges over.
- Remove the last three to five tufts remaining on each side of the seam.
- Always make sure to keep the blade closest to the tuft on your main piece of turf.
- This minimizes excess backing in the seam.
Step 3
- The next step begins with cutting the edges off.
- Now align the pieces so the tufts will land the same distance apart across your entire lawn.
Step 4
- Spike both the pieces in place.
- Double check the alignment.
Step 5
- Fold both pieces back about 8-10″.
- Lay your seam tape centered on the seam.
Step 6
- Using a spreader, spread the seam glue evenly.
- At this time, ensure there are no dry spots that can be left behind on the tape.
Step 7
- A thin yet consistent coat of the glue should be applied.
- When there is an excess amount of glue, it can come up through the turf.
Step 8
- Start at one end to precisely bring two pieces of turf together.
- Do this as evenly as possible.
- Lay your pieces down together.
- DO NOT let any fibers get into the glue.
Step 9
- Rub your fingers down the seam as a final quality check.
- If needed, pick out any trapped blades of turf.
Step 10
- Place 12″ wide strips of wood down your seam.
- Bags of infill can be used to weigh them down.
- It’s suggested to let the bags atop the seam for about 45-60 minutes total.
